Born and raised in Mexia, Texas, Bob Wright began attending Blackcat Football games in the 1930's with his dad. After graduating from Baylor in 1956, Wright came back to his hometown of Mexia, three years later to become sports editor of the Mexia Daily News. In his time as Sports Editor in Mexia he covered many different eras of Blackcat Football. Wright covered the era of head coach Bob McQueen in the 1960's. That was also the period when many Texas high schools integrated. When African American players from Mexia Dunbar High School joined the Blackcats, the team developed into a power. Wright also covered "The Crunch Bunch" of the 1989 State Championship team led by Coach Norman Cobb. Bob Wright covered the Blackcats throughout the 90's of the Wasson and Harris days to the early 2000's of Coach Larry Adair and Lee Wiginton before retiring in 2010.
